How to Cut the Cord

Let it be. Hands off.
Allow this surge
to corrupt their shot of you to blob.
Don’t suggest corrections.
Let them have their souvenir,
a memory-choice to serve their logic.
A rift has set you on your separate courses,
freeing you, but also freeing them
to search for comfort-meanings.
They can call you demon;
it’s no skin off your teeth.
Don’t think too much about it.
Don’t intrude upon their nesting,
some insistent nosy neighbor
pounding on the wall,
forcing unfamiliar truths on them.
Let them have their story, lie or not.
This story isn’t yours;
it harms you if you live in it with them.
Let them be. Let it go.
Be cold as the deep freeze preserving bodies over epochs, free of time.
